Inland Rail design contracts handed to Mott MacDonald and WSP

InlandRailAusBNAusBN - A joint venture of international project development consultants Mott MacDonald and WSP has won the design contract for two packages of the AUS$9.3 billion Inland Rail project.

Mott MacDonald and WSP will deliver engineering and design consulting services along with environmental assessments for the 107km Parkes to Narromine and 188km Narrabri to North Star (both NSW) stretches of the 1,730km track.

Inland Rail is Australia’s largest rail freight infrastructure project and will link the nation’s five largest cities, as well as key agricultural regions and seven major ports.

The rail network is set to transform Australia’s agriculture and resources industries when it becomes operational between 2024 and 2025, largely thanks to the establishment of a direct line between Melbourne and Brisbane.

“We’re looking forward to providing our best-of-practice engineering to produce an innovative and value-engineered design for this significant project,” said David Johnson, Mott MacDonald’s managing director for Australia and New Zealand.

“Once complete, Inland Rail will help create a stronger economy for Australia, as well as improve safety in local communities and reduce carbon emissions.”
